Weird Celebrity Baby Names

WEIRD CELEBRITY BABY NAMES

As if celebrities didn’t already command enough attention with their outrageous and extravagant lifestyles, some grab headlines on the backs off their offspring, thanks to the weird (but perhaps not so wonderful) names they choose to call their kids. Here is but a sample of them the strange names celebrities have given their kids:

Nicholas Cage – Kal-El

Nicholas Cage, who changed his own surname from Coppola to Cage in honour of Marvel Comics character Luke Cage, named his child Kal-El after Superman’s original birth name.

Jason Lee – Pilot Inspektor

Jason Lee is known to be a funny man. The star of comedies such as Mallrats, Clerks II and My Name is Earl, Jason decided to impart some of his humour onto his child’s name – Pilot Inspektor. Why “Pilot”? Because Jason apparently heard a song by indie rock band Granddaddy called “He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot”.

Bob Geldof & Paula Yates – Fifi Trixibelle

Irish singer, songwriter and political activist Geldof named his daughter Fifi after his aunt, while the second part of their child’s name was inspired by her late mother Paula’s fascination with the lifestyles of southern belles.

Chris Martin & Gwyneth Paltrow – Apple

Coldplay frontman and Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow had their first child, Apple Blythe Alison Martin, on May 14, 2004. Apparently one of Martin's bandmates already had a daughter named Apple, and the couple asked to 'borrow' the name. On an episode of Oprah in 2004, Paltrow gave a further explanation for the couple’s choice of name: “It sounded so sweet and it conjured such a lovely picture for me – you know, apples are so sweet and they're wholesome and it's biblical – and I just thought it sounded so lovely and … clean! And I just thought, "Perfect!"”

David Duchovny & Tea Leoni – Kyd

Apparently, David Duchonvy and his wife Tea Leoni shared a hearty chuckle at the thought of being able to shout: “Hey, kid!” to their child while secretly knowing that the latter word was spelt with a ‘y’ instead of an ‘i’ and was in fact their child’s name.

Sylvester Stallone – Sage Moonblood

With starring roles in the likes of blockbuster action films such as Rocky and First Blood, it’s pretty fitting that action hero Sylvester Stallone features the word “blood” in his son’s name! Still, back in his early days of scriptwriting after dropping out of the University of Miami, one of Sly Stallone’s pen names was ‘Q. Moonblood’, which probably better explains the inspiration behind his son’s name.

Frank Zappa – Moon Unit & Diva Thin Muffin

These names speak ‘weird’ for themselves. But it’s really not cool to have your kid tortured with a goofy name for the rest of their lives just so you can have a chuckle everytime you read their birth certificate!

Penn Jillette – Moxie Crimefighter

Jillette's wife had no middle name, so the couple’s theory here was that no one ever uses their middle name anyway, so why not have some fun with it. Still, that doesn’t explain the “Moxie” bit.

Rob Morrow – Tu Morrow

Ok, so there’s weird and then there’s downright stupid. Even below the whacky joke names and the pretentious hippie names, comes pun names such as Tu Morrow – daughter of Rob Morrow. It really doesn’t get any worse than this when it comes to weird celebrity baby names.
